blood stories

Here's an article by Willl Self (newly-diagnosed with PV) in yesterday's
Guardian.

We often blame ourselves for our illnesses -- but if we go that route, we need to look at the collective self, spewing carcinogens into the air in order to support our elevated (and computer and car generated) life styles.

  2. It was on Facebook and also some of the mpn patient listserves. I thought to email to you all but then thought why not post on our private blog-- easier to find.

  3. Whao. That is some heavy reading. Though I appreciated 'A disease that sounded like a Greek goddess spliced with an East End pub-landlady' - I had skim over the heavy duty shooting up bit. Id be curious your thoughts ? His experience even in sobriety, seems so gritty. He does not seem in the mood to look at the collective self at the moment. In this version at least, he flies right past his casual co-passengers. Fair enough, I guess.

  4. Thanks, J-Bg, for taking the time to post comments. I know you are very busy! I guess my first thought was how scientists at this point would not blame his errant ways for this disease -- but they do tell us it is caused "by a toxin in the environment" -- so we could blame society's errant ways, and if we had a collective culture that felt responsible for its unhealthy damage to humans and the earth, then we would all be thinking about how to shape up. But we don't. Instead we have expensive medical costs and lots of cancer, all round.
